Part of Sydney’s defences back in the late 19th century, though much smaller than the fortifications on Middle Head.
Access up some stairs from Shark Beach, you can even stay overnight in the former barracks.
It’s also the start of the foreshore walking track to Hermitage Point. Bring your boots after rain, it gets muddy.
And someone charmingly left a poo by the side of the track (not a dog poo). If you got to go, you got to go. But next time go a bit further in, to the bush, thanks.
