Shark Island and the city.
Milk Beach with Hermit Point in the background.
Strickland House, 'an early Victorian Italianate style marine mansion designed for a picturesque setting.' Which is nice.
Yes, Hermit Point.
See, the sign proves it.
Looking north across Hermit Bay.
Not us.
Shadow play.

So named after hermit who lived there. Probably not in Strickland House.

One of the best things about this Point is the getting there. Great foreshore walk, plus lovely little Milk Beach.

Rock and Crocs.
Steele Point rock. Clifton Gardens and Chowder Bay across the water.
Looking north-east across Shark Bay to Vaucluse Point.
Rictoria Vegina gun battery.
Wobbly bloggers on the job pointing out a point.
Looking west-south-west to the emerald city and Centre 'Point' tower.
Looking south-west to Darling Point.

Part of Sydney’s defences back in the late 19th century, though much smaller than the fortifications on Middle Head.

Access up some stairs from Shark Beach, you can even stay overnight in the former barracks.

It’s also the start of the foreshore walking track to Hermitage Point. Bring your boots after rain, it gets muddy.

And someone charmingly left a poo by the side of the track (not a dog poo). If you got to go, you got to go. But next time go a bit further in, to the bush, thanks.

Shark Beach and Steele Point.

From Shark Beach, with Middle Head and Dobroyd Head across the water.
The gables of gothic Greycliffe House, built 1851.
Shark Beach and Steele Point from the steps leading up to Vaucluse Point.
Shark Beach, where name is no deterrent.
On west side of Vaucluse Point (Shakespeare Point?), looking across Shark Bay to Shark Beach and Steele Point.
Bottle and Glass Rocks.
Bottle and Glass Rocks - yes, after a rowdy party. Apparently they used to resemble a bottle with broken glass around it until ships and gun batteries at Bradleys Head used the rocks for target practice. As you do. Laings Point in the middle distance, with North Head beyond.
Looking east to Point Seymour and that deco house.
Looking south-east to Vaucluse Bay Front Light, at 80 Wentworth Road, designed by architect Maurice Festu. It's one of a pair of leadlight towers; the other is at 12 Wentworth Road. Both carry red lanterns which, when lined up, give a bearing on the Eastern Channel. You can also see the tip of Macquarie Lighthouse in the top right of the photo.
Shiny raven having a drink.

An ample and spacious point with lots of good spots for private picnicking. Plus it’s handy to the beach at Nielson Park.

See this old photo looking south-west from Vaucluse Point… appears to have once been called Shakespeare Point (at least on its western edge) but there’s no record of that name now.

At the end of Fitzwilliam Road, Vaucluse.

Beautiful deco house occupies the Point, once the site of a ferry wharf (Vaucluse Point ferry, just to confuse you).

Go the zoom.

Couldn’t get access to this Point as it’s somebody’s backyard so here’s some pictures taken from Point Seymour.
