significant fig, we fink

There you go, we thought this was Fig Tree Point.

According to the sign… named after Sir Edward Hallstrom (1886-1970), a philanthropist and local industrialist. His home ‘Figtree House’ (now demolished) fronted Coolawin Road. Its grounds contained a private zoo, an in-ground saltwater swimming pool and a ballroom. The land was subdivided into eight housing blocks after his death. The grassy point with significant fig trees was given to Willoughby Council as a public reserve.

Previously called Kooroowal or Kuruwal in the indigenous language. Once called Fig Tree Point. Name derived from the fig trees on the point (no really).

Grassy area up on the hill, couple of benches, one staring straight into the fig. Steep access road – walk it. Great expansive views of Middle Harbour with a good look at quirky Quakers Hat.
