Historic part of Sydney, a suburb in its own right, well worth a wander through its many nooks and crannies.

The name commemorates William Dawes, astronomer with the First Fleet. He left a valuable record of the local indigenous language thanks to his close relationship with the girl Patyegarang. She would probably have known the area as Tar-ra.

The current park is roughly the dimensions of the 5 gun battery that Dawes built but scaffolding prevented us from walking through a fair schmack of it.
